THR Uganda’s Capacity Building initiatives are designed to empower key stakeholders—including healthcare professionals, community leaders, policymakers, and advocates—with the knowledge, skills, and resources they need to effectively support tobacco harm reduction. By strengthening the capabilities of these individuals and organizations, we aim to create a robust, informed network that can drive meaningful change in tobacco control and public health.
Training Programs and Workshops:
We offer comprehensive training sessions and workshops tailored to the needs of different groups. These programs cover topics such as tobacco harm reduction, the science behind nicotine alternatives, counseling techniques for smokers, and advocacy strategies. Participants leave equipped with practical skills and knowledge that they can apply in their professional and community roles.
Partnerships with Healthcare Institutions:
We collaborate with hospitals, clinics, and medical training institutions to integrate tobacco harm reduction education into their curricula and professional development programs. By working closely with healthcare providers, we ensure that they have the tools and knowledge to offer informed guidance to patients seeking to reduce or quit smoking.
Resource Development and Distribution:
We develop and disseminate a range of educational resources, including manuals, toolkits, and guidelines, that support capacity-building efforts. These materials are designed to be accessible and practical, enabling stakeholders to confidently advocate for and implement harm reduction strategies.
Peer Learning and Networking:
Our capacity-building initiatives emphasize the importance of peer learning and collaboration. We create opportunities for stakeholders to connect, share experiences, and learn from one another through networking events, online forums, and collaborative projects. This fosters a supportive community where knowledge and best practices are continuously exchanged.
Advocacy and Leadership Training:
We offer specialized training programs that focus on developing advocacy and leadership skills. These programs are designed to empower participants to effectively champion tobacco harm reduction policies and practices at local, regional, and national levels.
Community Outreach and Empowerment:
We extend our capacity-building efforts to grassroots community organizations, helping them to develop and implement harm reduction initiatives within their communities. By empowering local leaders and volunteers, we aim to create sustainable, community-driven change.
Policy Engagement and Advocacy:
We work closely with policymakers and government agencies to build their capacity to understand and implement tobacco harm reduction strategies. This includes providing them with the latest research, policy briefs, and evidence-based recommendations that support the integration of harm reduction into national tobacco control policies.
Public Awareness and Education Campaigns:
In addition to our targeted training efforts, we run broad public awareness campaigns that educate the general public on the benefits of tobacco harm reduction. By raising awareness at all levels, we create a more informed and supportive environment for harm reduction initiatives.
